KUFIYA COMEDY
Where comedy meets community
Welcome, Salam!
-
What started out as the first habibi friendly show in Texas, has grown into a full on production of comedy shows, a festival, and theatre productions that span the USA and UK.
We took it upon ourselves to create the opportunities that elevate and nurture new MENA voices in ways that allow us to tell our own stories.
Our newest project is MAJENIN - a Palestinian love story. A play about two fools who dare to love in a wold obsessed with their sadness.
An award winning and critically acclaimed show that just finished a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. After a few other stops along the way, the play will be on it’s way back to Dallas, TX in April 2027.

Majenin - a Palestinian love story is a Silver EFFTA Award winning critically acclaimed play.
Majenin is an Arabic word meaning ‘crazy people’, about the madness of love that occupies oneself once you surrender to it. It is an intimate love story unfolding between London and New York between two Palestinian artists. Blending theatre and stand-up, the piece moves from romantic realism to psychological interiority, bookended with stand-up comedy routines, with the protagonist split between her outer self and her inner ‘lover girl’ narrator. The audience will witness both her surrender to love and the self-awareness of her unravelling in real time.
In tone, it's similar to Before Sunrise and the confessional sharpness of Fleabag, drawing on the mythological Arabic storytelling of Layla and Majnun.
“Toeing the lines between stand-up and theatre…it is a play that refuses to be forgotten.”
